PostSubject: Lost Town   28/3/2012, 15:05

Hey guys,

So I spent all day yesterday creating a town, played for 5 min after and then saved it. Today when I went to play it, after installing the new patch and updating two of my mods, my town was not there. I can't begin to tell you the heart attack I am having, so apparently it said that it can't load the game some epansion data blah blah. Anyhow, after surfing the web and finding a lot of people had this problem none of the solutions helped, until I found something they kept saying something about "meta data". Now here is the problem, my saved town does not have "meta data" in it! And what really sucks meatballs is that I don"t have any other saves because I didn't get to play that town for too long I was too tired so I only have the one copy.

Please for the love of sphaghetti tell me there is a way to get my town back, I can't beging to tell you how much work and time and effort went into making that town the way I want it.

hi hunny

I have no idea on why this happened but I have found this, not sure if you have tried this or seen this

Here are the steps:

1. Go to your sims directory in my documents/electronic arts/sims 3/
and i think the sub folder is called save but search throguh the folders till you find....
2. find sunset valley.sims3.backup or whatever you called your town.
3. find suset valley.sims3 move to a temp folder.
4. rename sunset valley.sims3.backup to suset valley.sims3

when you open the game your town should be back on the main menu.

link to the thread HERE

will keep looking, there has got to be a way to get your town back

Thanks Ina, I tried that but the problem is that the "meta data" is missing from my saved town, it is just not there! So no matter what I do it won't load without it, as I noticed all my other saved games have that "meta data" in them. How can I get that towns data? I fear that there is no way to do this, I have no reference point.

found this also hun

This may have been caused by corrupted meta file for that save and the game thinks that the world has been uninstalled. If you have other save games based on this same world, you can copy the Meta.data over to replace the copy in the disabled save.

If not, try these:

Open My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Saves.
Backup or zip/archive the glitchy save folder, in case we messed up something with these steps; but leave a working copy in "Saves".
Load a "new game" of the world causing the grayed out saves.
If the world has pre-made Household, just select one at random; if not grab one pre-made Sims from the Sim Bin in CAS and place this Household in a Lot.
Use cheats, if needed to be able to afford the Lot and play around a bit; and also have enough to send a Sim on an Adventure (if you have WA), if you need to restore other than the "meta.data" file.
Save, give it a name unlike your other saves (under "fix_RiverView", for example) and then exit the game.
Navigate to "Saves" folder and open the save folder you just created (ie "fix_RiverView.sims3").
Copy the file called "Meta.data".
Now, navigate to the folder with the disabled saved game.
Open this save folder and overwrite the old Meta.data file with the new one that you copied.
Load the game and test.

After this, if a save corrupts any other files, you can reuse the "Meta.data" file in the "fix_xxxx.sims3" folder again.

Or try this its an old fix for a similar problem so it might still work

C:\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves - You will be given a list of 4 items.

Sunset Valley.sims3 (folder)
Sunset Valley.sims3.bad (folder)
Sunset Valley.sims3.backup (file)
Sunset Valley.sims3.legacy (file)

-Delete the 2 folders (Sunset Valley.sims3 & Sunset Valley.sims3.bad)

-Then rename Sunset Valley.sims3.legacy to Sunset Valley.sims3

Hopefully this will allow you to use your save file/neighborhood again. It worked for me.

I would have suggested overwriting the meta.data file like Ina said hun.

This is happening because after the patches, your game isn't recognising world objects properly in the custom town.
Your normal worlds should load properly, it'll just be the custom one that's affected.

Keep me posted on what happens!

There's something else we can try to get a different meta.data if it doesn't work first time.
Instead of getting the meta.data straight from the world, we'll load up the world in another new save and send them on vacation.
THEN save to get the meta.data.
We'll see what happens when you try it the first way, but don't panic just yet if it doesn't work, I'll explain the other way properly if we need it! Very Happy

Either way once we get it working, you'll probably have to overwrite the meta.data file every time you want to play that world, but it'll keep your saves and each time you overwrite it you'll be exactly where you left off :)

Fingers crossed for you!

more love

try opening up a new sunset valley play one family for 20 mins or so then "save as" name it whatever sunset valley temp or something

then you might be able to place the meta data file into your saved world I think one of the posts I found mentioned it earlier

ohhhh right! Sorry, I totally read that wrong.
doh

Either way, if you make a new save and steal the meta.data from that like Ina said it should work fine :)
