PostSubject: Animals have no moodlets?   11/2/2012, 09:04

I don't have the problem myself, but my sister has this problem, so I thought I could better help her out a bit. Well, whenever my sister plays with any animal in her game, it has no moodlets. The dog/cat/horse could be starving but still that moodlet doesn't show on that panel. I'll ask her to make a screenshot later to clearify but at the moment she is still sleeping. So, could anyone help out?

Hmm, I've never even heard of anyone having that issue before, never mind solving it haha!
If she could answer these questions it would help me narrow down what the problem might be - at the minute it could be anything!

  • Has she installed the latest patch? (Her base game version should be 1.29.55 - you can check by opening the launcher and hovering over the first little icon in the row of tiny icons along the bottom that show you which expansions you have installed)
    - If she's not updated, check the Game Updates tab or use the Super Patcher from the Officials here: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/175477.page

  • How long has this been going on? Right from when she first installed Pets or did the moodlets suddenly stop appearing?

  • Is it just the Pets that aren't getting moodlets? Are her normal sims (not animals) having any issues with moodlets?

  • Does she have any mods installed?

  • Is she using cheats? Testingcheatsenabled true has a feature that allows ctrl + clicking on moodlets to remove them, and there have been known issues with certain ones being clicked & removed and not re-appearing.

  • Are the pets that have no moodlets ones that she's created or ones that were already in the game and is there any difference?
I.e. do the in-game pets have moodlets when she plays them? Is it just pets that she's created that don't have moodlets?

  • Is this all pets or just certain ones? Does it affect one type of animal or all of them?

I'm sure we'll figure it out, it could be to do with a mod or cheat, or it could be a bug that needs fixing by EA, or a glitch that may be solved by re-installing Pets.

This is what she answered:
* Yes,
*It suddenly stopped
*It are just pets, not humans. But with the humans, the moodlets of pets, like having kittens, don't show either.
*Yes. I can give you a list of mods if you would like that.
*Sometimes, but the mod worked fine with pets at first.
*None of the pets, self made and in game pets, have moodlets
* All pets. Well, I'm not sure about cats, because I don't oftenly play with them, but horses and dogs don't have them.

And she has already tried reinstalling

Thanks for the answers Very Happy

She probably will have updated - I'm just thinking there might have been something in the latest patch that would have fixed it. They gave a massive list of specific things then said 'and various bug fixes' which is totally unhelpful lol!

Just in case (the launcher can be really unreliable with updates)
- open up the launcher and along the bottom of it you'll see a row of little icons (some of them will probably be shaded out unless you have every expansion and stuff pack).
-The first one of these icons right in the bottom left of the launcher is the base game icon, and if you hover your mouse over it - it will pop up with a number.
That number is your base game version. If it says 1.29.55 then you're fine on the updates side of things.

Yep, a list of mods would be fab thanks - I doubt it's anything to do with them but it can't hurt to check! Conflicting or out of date mods can cause all sorts of trouble, so it's worth looking into :)

She'd probably know if it was a cheat that had caused it, I was just typing anything as I thought of it haha!

Hmm.... can she think of anything that happened around the time of it starting to go nuts? Installed something? Updated something?
Anything she can think of at all?

There must have been something that caused it if it just suddenly started - we just have to figure out what it was and get rid of it! :)

Little update!

I did a bit of digging over at the official forums and there have been a few people reporting that they've got no pet moodlets, but then they check one of the 'pet only' interactions and they're still getting some moodlets, just not all of them.

I had a look at the SimsWiki and the list of Pet moodlets doesn't contain any of the 'starving' moodlets etc.
I hardly ever get time to actually sit and play the game so I'm not sure whether the listed moodlets are the only ones pets are supposed to have or whether those are additional ones they have. You'll probably know better if you were getting the 'normal' moodlets before and then they suddenly stopped.
I really need to find more time to play haha!

You could check the list, run the game and see if they get moodlets from any of the specific interactions listed. It could be that they just don't have the moodlets because they haven't done anything to get one!

Here's a link to the Pets section of the list: http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Moodlets#Pets

Try out a couple of those interactions and see if anything shows up :)

This is what she says;

Quote :
I can't really think of something. At the start everything was okay, it might have been a mod. I was downloading a few things for my sims, just before it happened.

And, it doesn't even show if the dogs are pregnant, I have seen that

Most likely to be something that was installed then - As far as I know there haven't been any big issues with moodlet's disappearing with mods but that doesn't mean it's not the cause. It could be that there's something in there that isn't compatible with pets.

Easiest way to check is just to take out your Mods folder for now (just move it to your desktop or somewhere away from your sims 3 folders - you don't have to delete anything, just move it out of the way for now)

Once the folder's moved - Delete your cache files (it's totally safe and you won't lose anything, they'll be recreated as soon as you run the game)
- go to your Sims 3 folder in My Documents
- under all the folders you'll have a bunch of random files.
- Delete any of these you see:
CasPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
scriptCache.package
simCompositorCache.package

- Then run the game to test. Load up one of the in-game families with pets (not one you've created) and try some of the interactions in the list of moodlets in the link I gave in the last reply. (the simswiki link)

See if the moodlets come back :) - if they do then we know it's something in the Packages folder that's causing the problem and we can move on to a different method to sort it out.

Awesome! Next step is finding which file it is.

I can see from the screenshots that there are custom CAS sliders, but no slider hack mod - so even if that has nothing to do with the moodlets problem, there will be issues in CAS with the sliders, and it's never good to have custom sliders without a hack mod. So you'll need to install one.
I use this one by #aWT - http://awtmk.blogspot.com/2010/07/slider-hack.html
(Just scroll down to the Download button, ignore everything else. There are tuning options but they're not needed, and it installs just like any other game mod - extract it and stick it in the packages folder)

The most likely thing causing the moodlet problem will be game mods rather than custom content.
(By 'mods' I mean game modification files, not custom content clothing, make up or decor etc - they're 2 different things)

- Take out the following files (you don't need to delete them, just move them away from the sims 3 folder):

The slider hack mod I just suggested (#MK [ts3-mod] SliderHack [v1.29.55] CASBasics-2x.package)
All custom sliders (the 12 Jonha_Sliders_ files)
NoAutoRomSocials.package
NoDrift Freecam Mod.package
SimsMxHospitalOverhaul.package
VTransformation_1D.package

Put them somewhere safe away from the sims 3 folders just in case we don't need to delete them - then you can put your mods folder back into your sims 3 folder (if you didn't already put it back)
- delete the cache files like before and test the game again.

If the moodlets still aren't there then we know it's some of the other custom files causing the problem and we can use the 50 % method (which I'll explain when we need it) to find out what it is we need to delete.

If the moodlet's re-appear then we know the files that are in the packages folder are clean and I'll explain what to do to test the game mods we moved out.

So, test without the files I listed and let me know what happens :)

The moodlets reappear without those mods.

I see you have narrowed it down a little, so I think Isla would say put one back in at a time and see if the moodlets work with each one, and when they stop you will know which mod it is that is stopping them.

Absolutely right Ina haha!

It won't be the sliders or slider hack - those are definitely fine because I use them myself.

So from these:
NoAutoRomSocials.package
NoDrift Freecam Mod.package
SimsMxHospitalOverhaul.package
VTransformation_1D.package

Test one at a time (it's a pain I know but at least you'll definitely find the incompatible one) and delete the one (or more than one!) that cause the moodlets to disappear. (make sure you delete the scriptCache.package file each time you test - that's the cache file for game mods)

Then we're done! You can put the other clean mods back and sliders etc once you know which one was breaking everything

Wooo! Great news! Good thing there was only one that needed taking out! Very Happy

If your sister still wants to enable Teen pregnancy there are other mods you can use to do it, let me know if she wants to replace it with something else.

Twallan's mods are the best for this - they're a bit more to deal with in terms of keeping up with updates (but I've got a thread here where I post every time he updates something, so it's not too much of a chore!

You'll need his Woohooer mod from here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Woohooer+Phase+Seven
and his StoryProgression mod from here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/StoryProgression+Phase+Eleven - note that this is Phase 11 of the mod, which isn't the most recent version, but there's a little note on the Phase 12 version saying it's in testing, so you're best off sticking with the stable Phase 11 version until he's done playing around lol!

Then once you have those mods installed, you'll need a couple of bits of custom teen maternity clothing (if you don't already have some) - you can get lots from poppysims here: http://www.poppysims.com/tfmaternitypage7.html

Then finally, when you've installed everything - you'll need to go in-game and select either your active sim, a computer or City Hall to access the new 'nraas' menu the mods give. From there you need to change the Woohooer options to allow teen woohoo and the StoryProgression Pregnancy options to allow teen. (you can also fiddle around with the other options in there if you want - there's so much to play with haha!)

Then that's it! Very Happy
