PostSubject: Alt, windows key and others not working   11/11/2014, 16:26

I had noticed that the last patch my game would not drop to desktop. If I put my game in windows mode, I could bring up the desktop but not minimize my game as would do when taking screen shots using the ctrl+prtscr button. (That one still isn't working btw). So I went onto the forum this morning and decided to cruise through the tech thread to see if anyone else was having the same or similar problem. Apparently everyone is having this issue. Suspect So was the last patch from EA the culprit or Origin? One will really never know as some people are suggesting they noticed this after Origin updated.

The work around
According to Crinrict there is a solution: (With pictures go here)

Deactivate Origin in Game
Introduction

A special feature of Origin is the so called Origin in game. It allows you to chat with your friends in game or to access an Internet browser.

More details can be found here: How To Get the Most Out of Origin In Game

Unfortunate this feature can also lead to issues so while troubleshooting your game, it can be important to turn off Origin in game.

You can either turn if off for all games or only for a specific game.
Turn Origin in game completely off.

   Open Origin
Click on Origin – Application Settings – Origin In Game.
Remove the tick next to Enable Origin In Game.

Turn off Origin in game for a specific game

   Open Origin
   Click on myGames
Right-click on the game for which you want to turn off Origin in game
   Choose game properties
   GameProperties
Tick the option Disable Origin in game for this game.

I personally haven't tried this yet, but will be today. If it is a possible solution I will post back.

Okay so here are my findings. I opened up Origin, scrolled to TS4, opened up the game properties and selected to disable in game options for Origin. Went in game, put it back into Fullscreen and then did two tests. I hit the windows button and my game now minimized. Test no. 2, I went into CAS and used ctrl+prtscr and then windows button (to minimize), and I was able to view my screen print in Paint. I am now once again a happy simmer camper. mrprpl

Glad this was helpful! I thought the same thing, that it was something to do with my pc, I even dug into it (settings) to see if something had gotten changed. Hope this helps resolve your issue too!
