I got this comment on my Daddy in training T's over at TSR and I dont know the answer so I was wondering if anyone here knew why this would happen

Hey Ina, I checked out your file. it looks as if you Cloned your tee from the 6th EP. Is this from Showtime? This is probably the problem with this persons game.

You're welcome! I'm pretty sure that what it is. With objects they just don't show, but I've downloaded CC and have had my Sims in full body black suits because I don't have an EP...

Yep, that's right!
It's cloned from an EP mesh- so if the person downloading doesn't have that EP, they won't have the mesh and the game can't load the textures to match it, which is what causes the creepy missing texture business.

There is a way you can do it so they don't need the EP, but I don't know the ins and outs of it off the top of my head. I'll do some digging and see if I can find some info!

I shall have a looksee. I know people like NyGirl do things like that a lot, she's released a lot of stuff from the Diesel SP that doesn't need the pack.

Those lovely hoodies Kilhian published a while ago didn't need Pets and they were cloned from a Pets mesh, so there's got to be a way to do it, it just doesn't live in my brain right now haha!

That's right Isla. It requires to import each LOD mesh from the EP you are using into a a base game cloned object. Al ot of work but once its done you have a "new" mesh to work off of.

Ahhh that's much easier than the way I was thinking of... messing around in the depths of S3PE and quite probably causing some serious damage haha!

Still a lot of fiddling required, but I'm definitely going to try this at some point Very Happy

too funny I'll try and explain it a bit more. The way I was thinking of doesn't even exist Ina so just ignore the 'this is so much easier' part haha!

LOD stands for Level Of Detail - it's the different 'levels' of a mesh that are shown at different draw distances in the game, from close up (the most detailed, LOD1) to far away (least detailed, LOD3). All of the LODs make up the full mesh you need for something to display properly.

Basically you're starting a new project cloning both a base game mesh and the EP mesh you want to end up with.
Instead of editing the textures straight away, you'd edit the cloned BG mesh - importing the EP mesh for each LOD to replace it, and creating a new package.
Effectively you're just switching the meshes over so the game thinks it's one that doesn't rely on EP content. It'll treat it like a completely new mesh.

You can get the more detailed info on importing and editing meshes from any basic meshing tutorial.
Something like this should be ok, it takes you through everything, which you don't really need, but it explains how to import and export with Milkshape. It doesn't explain how to get everything you need though - there are plugins for the programs needed to work with the files ...
I don't know if you've already got a preferred 3D program with plugins set up or not .... scratch
It depends what program you're using obviously, Blender has different plugins and import options, and slightly different controls.

Once you've replaced the mesh you can work on the texture like you would have done with the original.
